Want To Volunteer?

This is a great way to give back to your community

You don't need to know much (if anything) about Hockey to get started. We pair you up with other more experienced Coaches, Convenors and Volunteers who can show you the ropes and make volunteering more enjoyable and easier to do.

If you are interested in volunteeering at the DMCHL, please contact info@dmchl.com

RESPECT IN SPORT:

Hockey Canada and GTHL (our governing bodies) require that all volunteers who have an official capacity must complete this short, informative online course. It only ever has to be done once, and is transferable to other leagues and other sports. Please Note that this is different and in addition to the Respect in Sport for Parents. Please follow this link:

Go To The Course (Click This Link)

POLICE CHECK:

Hockey Canada and the GTHL (our governing bodies) require that all volunteers who have an official capacity must have a Police Check done. Yes, even Police Officers :)

DOWNLOAD Coach/Volunteer POLICE CHECK FORM HERE (Click This Link)

PRINT IT ON LEGAL SIZED PAPER ONLY.

For those coaches and volunteers who live in the GTA (Postal Code starts with an "M") you must contact your Convenor (GTHL, Select, Diamonds or House League convenor) to fill in this special form (Downloadable above).  For those who live in other cities (non "M" Postal Codes) this form DOES NOT APPLY so please have a Police Check done in your city that includes a Vulnerable Sector check (see Q3 below) and forward the CLEARED copy to your Conveor.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
(about Police Checks) :

Q1 -“I have a police check that I did back in April/May at a local police station. Is this somehow different?  do I still need to do this? I can send you a pdf copy. “

A1 – If you have a recent Police Check, and it included a search of the Vunerable Sector Database then it will probably be fine.

None of the online police checks qualify at the moment, sorry. If you filled out a paper copy of a "Waiver" that was then submitted to the Toronto Police Service Head Quarters at 40 College Street in Toronto (Or Peel or York Headquarters), then please send us the copy you will have been sent back in the mail which states "CLEAR”. HINT: If you didn't fill out a paper document and mail it with a cashier's check for $20, then it likely wont be the right one.

Q3- "I don't live in the GTA (my Postal Code doesnt start with an 'M'). What do I do?

A3 - (from the GTHL office as of July 12/2016) :

Those that are not Toronto residents will need to obtain their Police Check from their local police services:

     - Mississauga/ Brampton- Peel Regional Police

     - Markham/ Vaughan- York Regional Police

     - Etc.

The procedures for those volunteers will vary between their detachments. They will need to inquire with them directly.

It’s a Vulnerable Sector Database search that needs to be completed which searches the National Sex Offenders Registry and this isn’t something that can not be done online at the moment.

Q4– “I live in the GTA and I missed the chance to have DMCHL do this for me. What do I do?"

A4 – Downoad the Blank Form above and please follow these steps:

  1. Print the form on Legal Sized paper (any other size won’t be accepted by the Police Service and you will be rejected weeks later)
  2. Fill out the form completely and correctly (mistakes will have them rejected by the Police Service)
  3. Get a Bank Draft/Certified Check for $20 made out to “The Toronto Police Service” (regular check will be rejected)
  4. Mail the Original Form + Bank Draft in to the Police Head Quarters downtown Toronto (see Top of Form for correct address - Drop it off in person for faster service)
  5. Scan a copy of the Form and the Bank Draft to your Convenor so they know you sent it.
  6. Scan a copy of your driver’s licence and pass it to your Convenor.

Most likely you will get a CLEAR letter in the mail in 2-3 weeks. When it arrives please scan a full copy of that CLEAR form to your Convenor.

Some of us will be asked to go for finger prints, the letter will stipulate what to do. Print a copy of the Volunteer Letter (see below in Documents & Links) to save yourself the $25 fee. After finger prints you will then be sent a CLEAR form, please scan a full copy of that CLEAR form to your Convenor.

Please remember, you are NOT cleared until your Convenor recieves a copy of your CLEAR letter from the Police Service.

Believe us folks, if there was any way to make this easier so we could speed up this arduous process for ourselves and our club we would jump at it.

         Select Coach's Courses & Materials:

The NYHL, Hockey Canada and the GTHL (our governing bodies) require that all Select Team Officials & GTHL Team Officials complete additional courses. The couses & Links are below, and additional materials are in the Documents Section at the bottom of this page. **NOTE: The ONLINE TEST LINK brings you to the course for DON MILLS ONLY - Each Club has it's own link so do not pass this to any other club.

OTHER COMMENTS

Canadian Hockey Parents are crazy. While the majority of them will be fine, the few noisy ones can drag everyone down. They seem to feel their complaints are a positive contribution to the team, but they aren’t.  If they put in even 10 hours of volunteerism then they would have a more valuable, and informed, opinion. Don’t let them alter your success, and if you need help with anything speak to anyone with the DMCHL Executive right away, don’t wait. Thank You for Your Volunteerism!

Thanks to past and present sponsors!
